Garden Design, Build and Professional Gardening- Encompassing design and construction of new gardens as well as to renovate, rework and adapt existing gardens so that they can enjoyed, utilised and lived in. Based in Herefordshire, we undertake maintenance and development of gardens- evolving and tweaking them so that they give joy everyday of the year. Simply, there is no replacement for time on-site in creating enchanting and rich outdoor spaces; design, build, maintain, develop- it's one process.
Ethos
Gardens should be spaces of enjoyment, beauty and people. Ivor Kilby Gardens achieves this through a complete process of understanding both the site and its owners. Personally, I have a passion for plants, and believe entirely that plants (in their many forms) should comprise a large proportion of any garden.
Gardens should work hard for the people who live with them. They should be spaces which never fail to provide joy and happiness whilst being functional and easily adaptable.
IKG creates gardens to a wide-ranging palette. Formal and informal, cottage, contemporary and mostly, those that fit no category at all! Blending desired elements into the space sees creation of kitchen gardens, terraces, ponds, borders, driveways and meadows. We undertake all sizes of projects; courtyards to estates. The creation of gardens is often a very intuitive process, constantly tweaking and adjusting- they're living, changing entities.Sometimes gardens need very little doing to them, it can be a matter of rearranging what is there, or at least working with what is there. Ultimately, we love creating gardens which are fitting and beautiful, and unique to the situation.

IKG designs gardens from scratch, working closely with Clients to ensure an end product which is functional, as well as beautiful. Thorough attention is given to the intended use of the garden, maintenance inputs, surrounding landscape, site conditions, and exisiting trees and plants to ensure the designed works are as appropriate and value-enhancing as possible.
We enjoy working the 'already-there' into new elements in our gardens, as often full redesigns are not necessary nor appropriate- instead curation and reworking of the space can deliver exceptionally comfortable areas which have a much reduced financial and envorimental impact. We embrace the management of water to be an asset for a garden and ensure gardens are adaptable and resilient to everyday life.

Quality, appropriate construction of outdoor spaces is of upmost importance. Gardens should be constructed to suit the site, history and use of the space. We combine the latest regulations and British Standards with sensitive interpretation of new and existing materials to produce well-built, long lasting gardens. IKG can specify and install garden lighting, where required, which is appropriate to the space and intuitive in its function. We are driven in making gardens as climate change- resilient as possible, and often aim to utilise rainwater in the garden, subtlety part of the design Our schemes often use gravel, permeable surfaces, and generous planting areas to ensure a pleasing, year-round outdoor space.

Gardens need gardening, sometimes a lot, sometimes very little. For us, gardening is as much about maintenance as it is about development- subtle improvements, making areas work better, creating new vistas and pictures with plants, learning from what the plants are 'saying'. Our planting design allows us to create gardens where the maintenance requirement suits that of the owners requirements.
